Carla Camurati Director, Producer, Screenwriter and Actress (Brazil)

After an awarded career as television and cinema actress in the 80s, Camurati became director, producer, screenwriter and distributor, in 1995, with the long-feature "Carlota Joaquina – A princesa do Brazil", a remarkable film to national production. It was the first success of public for the national cinema in the 90s, participating of 40 festivals and having about 1,5 million spectators due to a totally independent distribution by Carla Camurati herself. Before starting directing long films, she had directed two short films: "A Mulher Fatal Encontra o Homem Ideal (1987) e Bastidores (1990). In 1997, she directed, wrote and distributed again a long film, "La Serva Padrona", based in Pergolesi opera, first Brazilian opera-film. In 2001 she implemented her third film, "Copacabana", inspired in stories of this famous district in Rio de Janeiro.  She is one of the founder members and director of "Capacabana Filmes e Produções" (Copacabana films and productions), cinematographic production company that in more than ten years of business established itself as one of the most renowned of the country in productions of theatre plays, films, operas, post-cinematography production, implementation of cultural rise events, cinema distribution, and, more recently, advertising production.  From 2001, she extended her work as film producer and distributor by opening "Copacabana Films" to titles of other directors such as "Belline e a Esfinge" (2002), by Roberto Santucci, and the documentary "Janela da Alma" (2002), by João Jardim and Waler Carvalho, that achieved notable number of spectators, 140 thousand, becoming one of the five national documentaries most seen in all times. Carla stands out in politics and cultural areas, as well as in organization of cultural events.  She has been one of the representatives of the Brazilian Cinema Academy that since 2000, delivers the Great Cinema Prize, among other activities. Since 2003, she has been directing the International Children's Film Festival that along with Cinemark, has traveled to 14 cities, testing child film market with titles from several nationalities, mainly European ones, the ones that normally do not come to Brazilian circuit. Within the initiatives promoted by the Children's Festival there is the project "A tela na sala de aula", which allows the festival films to be used in public schools.  Her fourth film "Irma Vap – O retorno ", inspired in the successful play "O mistério de Irma Vap", opened in 2006. She collaborated with the screenplay of the long film "Ele me Bebeu", by José Antônio Garcia, in initial phase, where she will be the leading actress. In 2007 she distributed the documentary "Pro dia Nascer Feliz", by João Jardim. Since September 2007, she holds the Municipal Theatre Foundation of Rio de Janeiro.
